Navelina trees are not very vigorous, and semi-dwarf in size. The fruit is medium to medium-large in size and slightly pear-shaped with a small navel. The fruit have very smooth rind and have reddish orange rind color at maturity. The fruit mature very early and are juicy with a sweet flavor that is less sprightly than Washington navel.
Navelina oranges were first discovered growing as a natural mutation in California and in 1910 Navelina oranges are medium to large in size and are spherical, obovoid, to slightly pear-shaped with a small rounded depression, also known as a navel, on the blossom stem end. Navelina is an early season Navel orange. It has medium to medium-large fruit which are slightly pear-shaped. The navel is quite small, and the peel is very smooth with a good red-orange colouration. The flesh is quite juicy, while sweetness is very good, flavor is very balanced if not better than of Washington Navel.
